On November 12th celebrate 50 years in the company of the World’s greatest Superheroes’ sidekicks: The Teen Titans. That’s right friends it has been half a century since The Brave and the Bold #54 brought together Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad for the first time, sidekicks of Batman, Flash and Aquaman respectively. Proving popular they eventually formed into The Teen Titans for The Brave and the Bold #60 and added a new member Donna Troy better known at the time as Wonder Girl.
It wasn’t until the early 80’s that the team of teens really took off though, under the guidance of two of comic’s biggest names: writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez, bolstering the roster with some new names, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy. From here their march into comic book history was cemented and they became one of the most popular team of Superheroes ever created. Available at your local comic book emporium on November the 12th will be a hardcover collection of classic stories from their 50 years including tales from – Marv Wolfman, Geoff Johns and Bob Haney amongst many others, weighing in at 400 pages in length and in hardcover format, this is a must buy for fans of Titans everywhere.
Precinct1313 Rating: 5 teen sidekicks out of 5
We love Starfire here at Precinct1313, she is one of our favourite female superheroes..(no.9 in our top 15 characters of all time 1313 fact fans), so allow us to share these pictures of the awesome Kotobukiya statue of the adorable alien Princess. This fantastic version of Koriand’r of Tamaran was originally envisioned by Japanese artist Shunya Yamashita, and the statue is an amazing rendition of his original design by sculptor Toshiaki Hogari.
Standing at 1/7 scale, just over 8 inches in height, Starfire exudes beauty..from the intricately designed and beautiful face replete with her gorgeous bright green eyes to the the long flowing red hair, this statue encapsulates everything we adore about the one time Teen Titan heroine. The release date for the statue is tentatively put as sometime between September and November, which means we can add this to our Xmas present list along with the dozens of other toys and figures we need in our lives!
Welcome back folks…
NUMBER 9 is: Starfire.
Starfire was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez in 1980 for the twenty sixth issue of DC comics presents. Starfire is the warrior name of Princess Koriand’r of the planet Tamaran, where she was in succession to take the throne and rule. Her older sister Blackfire was jealous of not being put forward for the honour of leading the Tamaraneans and attempted to assassinate her younger sibling. After failing in her attempt she was exiled, only to return later with the bitter enemies of the Tamaraneans..the Citadel, with the help of Blackfire, Tamaran fell and Koriand’r fled the planet and made her way to Earth. She initially joined the Teen Titans where she stayed for many years and had a serious relationship with as then leader Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Currently she can be found in the pages of Red Hood and the Outlaws, where she is teamed up with Jason Todd aka Red Hood and Roy Harper formerly known as Red Arrow, now called Arsenal.
Starfire like all Tamaraneans is able to safely absorb radiation and ultraviolet which she is then able to convert to blasts of energy, she is able to store great quantities of this within herself and release it at will. Earth’s gravity also allows her to fly at supersonic speeds and have super-strength almost approaching Wonder Woman’s capability.
