Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Sneak Peek Trailer

Welcome fellow fans of DC to another awe inspiring trailer showcasing next year’s highly anticipated “Batman v Superman” movie. This sneak peek trailer has been released just ahead of the new full trailer, which will debut on Wednesday December 2nd. Enjoy…

Plus, the new film will be the first time that Batman co-creator Bill Finger is finally credited with his input as co-architect of not just the character himself, but also of the development of the series as a whole. Previous to this, Bob Kane was solely credited as the creator, it wasn’t until years after the death of Finger that Kane finally acknowledged his important contributions to the inception of the Caped Crusader. It was Finger that first saw Kane‘s initial sketches of an early Batman, and then redesigned the character, adding the iconic cape and cowl. Bill Finger was also responsible for writing the original script for Batman‘s debut in Detective Comics #27, which released in May 1939.

Supergirl Takes Flight…

(DC Comic/Warner Bros-2015)

(DC Comic/Warner Bros-2015)

Warner Brothers’ Supergirl series has been snapped up by CBS, the network confirmed the order for the series yesterday. The series comes from the same creators of the extremely popular Arrow and Flash, and it has been confirmed that they will share the same on-screen universe, and to expect crossover stories.

Actress Melissa Benoist is playing the lead role of Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-EL in the series, and initially the show will follow Kara’s attempt at coming to terms with her new powers, and a new life away from her destroyed planet of Krypton. Interestingly, former Supergirl, Helen Slater has also been cast to appear in the series, though her role is as yet undetermined.

Supergirl was created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino in 1959 as a female counterpart to the Man of Steel. Making her first appearance in Action Comics #252, she became an instant hit with comic book fans across the globe. Kara is the last survivor of Krypton’s Argo City, sent to earth in a rocket pod by her father Zor-EL. Whilst on Earth, Kara acquired the same powers as her cousin Superman, and adopted the secret identity of Linda Lee Danvers, and at her cousins request, only becomes Supergirl in secret, until she is able gain sufficient control and confidence in her escalating powers.

We are huge Supergirl fans here at the Precinct, so it’s great to see the series has been picked up by CBS. Also this will hopefully start a trend to bring more female characters to the fore in both television and cinema, and Supergirl is definitely one of the best possible choices to lead this charge.

This really is a master class in cover art, drawn by two of comics’ most legendary artists, Klaus Janson and one time Marvel mainstay John Romita Jr. To be honest it was a difficult choice between this amazing cover and its variant below, but both are deserving of this week’s spotlight.

DC Comic’s Superhero Extravaganza!

dc logo

As you already may have heard, DC Comics and Warner Bros announced in the last couple of days their line up of Superhero movies coming to the cinema over the next five years, beginning in 2016 with the highly anticipated  Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. That very same year will also bring us the Suicide Squad movie and rumours are rife at the moment as to who has been asked to take starring roles. We already know that David Ayer of Training Day and more recently Sabotage is directing the film, but the rumour mill was in overdrive yesterday with actors Tom Hardy and Will Smith seemingly interested in roles within the film.

Will Bane return?

Tom Hardy of course has already portrayed Super-villain Bane on the big screen, could we see him returning to this character? Bane has in fact been an on/off member of the Suicide Squad in the comics, so it is a possibility and if not as Bane then maybe super assassin – Deadshot would be a great fit for this talented English actor, as for Will Smith … he would be an inspired choice as anti-hero: Bronze Tiger.

Suicide Squad’s Deadshot

2017 will bring us the big screen premiere of  comics’  first female Superhero – Wonder Woman, actress Gal Gadot is playing the awesome Amazon and this is the film we are looking forward to seeing the most. Also that year will be DC’s mega team up movie: Justice League, starring their most popular characters including Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Cyborg, the Flash and Aquaman.

gal gadot..wondy

2018 will be the year that the Flash zooms onto the big screen in his very own movie, portrayed by actor Ezra Miller and Khal Drogo himself, actor Jason Momoa will be playing the King of Atlantis – Aquaman, another fantastic piece of casting in our mind.

2019 will see mystical Superhero Shazam hitting the cinema, though no casting details have been confirmed on who will be playing the role of Shazam himself, we do already know that the role of  villain/anti-hero – Black Adam has been given to the always entertaining Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson, the sequel to Justice League is also being set up to come out this year.

To finish up this busy, costume-filled five years we have in 2020, a Cyborg film and a reboot of  Green Lantern (though I personally liked the Ryan Reynolds version … I am in a minority it seems) Warner also announced separate standalone films for Batman, with Ben Affleck and Superman, starring once again Henry Cavill. So if you’re a DC fan (like us here at the Precinct) then these are exciting times indeed, which of these announced projects are you most excited by? why not sound off in the comments section fellow DC fanatics.

Happy Birthday to the greatest Superman ever…

Today would have marked the 62nd birthday of the late great Christopher Reeve, also known as Clark Kent … Superman. Christopher Reeve was born on September 25th 1952 in New York city, his father Franklin Reeve was a teacher and published novelist and his mother Barbara was a journalist. Christopher attended Princeton school where he excelled from a young age both academically and in many sports, he also loved drama and spent a lot of his earlier school years on stage in many student plays, his first role was when he was nine years of age in the play Yeoman of the guard.

After leaving college, Christopher received a contract to work in the San Diego Shakespeare festival where he would have many roles in performances such as, Richard III and George IV amongst others. He also travelled to the UK for a short time where he found work in the famous Old Vic theatre in London. On his return to the US, he continued to work in plays including some on Broadway until his first role in a Hollywood movie called Gray Lady Down in 1978. The day after auditioning for the role of Superman in Richard Donner’s big budget version of the classic Superhero, Christopher received a 300 page script of the film cementing him as the future face of the Man of Steel. Though he was rather tall, he didn’t have the necessary build to play Superman and so he left for London once more where he trained under Darth Vader himself David Prowse. The film was a massive success and paved the way for many more sequels, and Christopher himself became a huge overnight star and won a BAFTA for his portrayal of the much loved Superhero.

In May of 1995, at an equestrian event that he was competing in, Christopher was thrown from his horse and suffered a severe spinal cord injury which left him permanently paralysed and wheelchair bound. He spent his time lobbying and helping people with similar injuries eventually opening the Christopher Reeve foundation and spinal injuries research centre. Christopher sadly died in 2004 from cardiac arrest, he was kind and gentle man in real life and was very much like a real life version of the Superhero he portrayed on screen … Happy Birthday Chris, you will always be a Superhero to us your fans!

Superman’s debut comic sells for 3.2 million dollars!

supes classic

An almost mint condition copy of Action comics #1 sold in an E-bay auction for a little over 3 million dollars, the 1938 comic features the ground-breaking debut of the Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created character Superman, the record breaking bid was made by New York comic dealers – Steven Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo.

It is estimated that there exist only about 150 copies of Action comics #1 worldwide, in various conditions, though the copy sold in the auction is rated a 9.0 out of 10, a near mint grade which is unusual for comics of this age. In comparison a copy of  Detective comics #27, which heralded Batman’s debut, sold in auction in 2010 for just over 1 million dollars and at the time was the most expensive comic book ever sold. Apparently some of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the former Superman actor – Christopher Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to curing spinal cord injuries.

Still the greatest Supes of all time!

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of a trailer

Wondy, Batsy, Supes

As well as showing the first picture of Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman costume, Zack Snyder at the San Diego comic-con also previewed a teaser trailer for the upcoming Superhero team up movie. The trailer opens on a dark and stormy night in Gotham city, and centres on a rooftop containing the Bat signal. An armoured hand reaches up and switches on the spotlight, Batman appears standing next to the spotlight…his eyes light up white as he stares up through the intense rain. The camera pans away from him and upwards revealing the darkened figure of Superman staring intently back at the Dark Knight, his eyes glowing red. The scene goes dark and transitions into the Batman Versus Superman logo.

The trailer was short but fantastic, and drew a lot of cheers from the lucky fans present at the showcase. After the preview finished, Zack Snyder then proceeded to call on stage the main actors from the movie – Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. The filming of the movie is currently underway and will be released in 2016.

This world would definitely benefit from having Superheroes exist, but which one would be most successful at bringing order to this chaotic planet?….you decide.
