The idyllic shores of Themyscira island beckon once more my Amazon loving affiliates, as we continue our weekly comic cover countdown to the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman. This week we proudly present; Wonder Woman (volume 2) #107. Written, illustrated and inked by superstar creator John Byrne. Released in March 1996.
The titanic tale secreted behind this fantastic Byrne cover is titled ‘Lifelines’ and chronicles Celtic sorceress Morgain Le Fay’s attempt to unravel the secrets of immortality by capturing the world’s immortals, with Diana herself at the top of the list. Recruiting the help of rhyming hell-spawn Etrigan through the use of mind control, she sends the demon to snare the Amazon Princess.
“Gone, gone o’ form of man… rise the demon ETRIGAN!”
This week’s incredible issue is a real who’s who of magical characters from DC’s large stable of mystical members including, Sorceress Morgain Le Fay, Demon Etrigan, the mysterious Phantom Stranger, occultist Theophilus Warly and immortal tyrant Vandal Savage. Diana has her hands full in this epic battle, as Etrigan matches her in strength and speed, but also has an infernal demonic ferocity that may just tip the scales his way. To say all hell breaks loose would be an understatement!

Me too my friend, such a talented individual, producing monthly comic issues almost entirely on his own is incredible work.

Indeed. I met him at a comic book store in Chicago back in the 80’s. He draw a picture of The Hulk for me which I still have framed and hanging on my wall.

That’s a very cool memory indeed, it’s always fantastic when you get to meet the talent behind the name, helps you appreciate them even more. And for the most part, it’s always incredible to me how ‘down to earth’ they are, I must say I have only met one grumpy and uptight comic artist in my life (won’t mention him here, don’t want to piss anyone off 😉 but the other 99% have been fantastic.
