Precinct1313’s all time favourite comic-book characters..daily countdown.

Welcome once more…

NUMBER 1 is: Wonder Woman.

ww

Wonder Woman aka Diana was created by William Moulton Marston, her first appearance was in All Star Comics #8 1941. The world’s first ever female superhero hails from the paradise island of Themyscira, where she lives with her fellow Amazon sisters under the protection of the Greek Gods. Diana’s original origin is that she was formed out of clay by her Mother Queen Hippolyta and given life by the Gods of Olympus, more recently this has been changed so that Diana is actually the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus.

As beautiful as Aphrodite, as wise as Athena, stronger than Hercules and as swift as Hermes, Diana grew up on Themyscira with just her sister Amazons away from the world of man, the immortal Amazons lived and prospered here for thousands of years, until the plane of US intelligence officer Steve Trevor was shot down over the island, nursed back to health by Diana, they left the island together and Diana became an envoy for the Amazons to the outside world. Wonder Woman is immortal, as strong as Superman and trained in every conceivable fighting style from modern and ancient times, she is a literal powerhouse of a warrior. Her uniform consists of bullet deflecting bracelets formed from the shards of the shield of Aegis and an unbreakable golden lasso with the ability to bind foes and force them to tell the truth known as the lariat of Hestia.

Though she has starred in many animated movies, a fantastic live action series during the 1970’s and early 80’s, Diana has yet had the chance to grace the silver screen, that is until the upcoming movie…Batman vs Superman where the awesome Amazon will be depicted by actress Gal Gadot. She is also getting her own film and will have a major starring role in DC’s planned Justice League film. Finally getting the recognition she deserves and we cannot wait!
